Starter Swimmers: Introduction
& Water Acclimation w/ Parent
This "Mommy & Me" type class (for Dads or Grandparents too!) is designed as an opportunity for parents and their infants to get in the water and experience the first steps of water safety. Water on the face can be a weird sensory experience for babies. They will need to learn how to hold their breath when water is near their nose and mouth. Then they will learn to get air when it is clear. Water may feel strange when their eyes get wet. They will need to learn to blink the water away to see again. Their ears may fill but within moments they will be able to hear again. Helping a child tolerate these sensations from early on will help their experience in survival swim lessons. An observation of other lessons is also encouraged to give a view of the program in action!

Survival Swim to Float: (under 12 months)
Non-walking infants 6 months+ (able to sit up independently) will be taught to rotate from any position in the water to a back float. The baby will learn to rest and breathe on their back until help arrives. After accomplishing these skills in their swim diapers, infants will then practice their skills in summer clothing and then progress onto winter clothing. This is critical to survival swimming because most children who find themselves in the water alone are fully clothed.

Survival Swim Float Swim: 1 - 6 years
Walking toddlers and young children will learn the Swim-Float-Swim sequence. Children will learn to jump or "fall" in and swim a short distance with their faces fully submerged, then to roll onto their backs and float and rest whenever they need to breathe, and finally to flip off their back onto their tummies to continue to swim safely to the side and crawl out. After accomplishing these skills in their swim clothing, infants will then practice their skills in fall clothing and then progress onto winter clothing. This is critical to survival swimming because most children who find themselves in the water alone are fully clothed.

Survival Swimming with Float: 7 years and up
For older children who have not yet learned to swim, the same basic principles apply to learn the Swim-Float-Swim sequence. They will learn to jump or "fall" in and swim a short distance with their faces fully submerged, then to roll onto their backs and float and rest whenever they need to breathe. Because of their ability to listen to verbal instruction and increased attention span and stamina, longer lesson times may be introduced, as well as less frequent lesson days and shorter program duration if needed to accommodate scheduling.

Continuing Student Progressive Lessons: Beginner Strokes
These lessons are designed as a continuation of our SFS programs with added introductory methods in Olympic stroke techniques, diving, turns, air exchange and stamina, etc. If your child has become fully skilled in our Infant Aquatics SFS program within the past 12 months, this course is highly recommended, and there is no registration fee. Your instructor may need to perform a quick in-water swim assessment to see if they qualify, depending on their age and skill development. This course is suggested for children ages 6-12 years old.
